Shortly after Aurelia Cisneros met and married her wife Alison in 2018, she launched Release–a kickboxing fitness studio helping people break through emotional and physical barriers by enabling them to release and restore through the physical activity of kickboxing. By combining innovation with mouth-watering dishes, Jeron Dotson and Justin Bush brought authentic Hawaiian-inspired cuisine to the city of Flint by creating The Poke Bowl. By engaging early-on with the Michigan SBDC, the Flint business was able to access a range of consultant and support services, from pitch development and financing resources, to building acquisition support and partner referrals.

Owner Lisa Sourbeck started working at Cherry Hill Barbers in 1998 as a hair stylist and then purchased the business right before the pandemic hit. After experiencing hardship due to COVID-19, Lisa reached out to the Michigan SBDC and was provided with ongoing, no-cost consulting in the areas of planning, marketing, social media, and website benefits.
